🪖 America won't retaliate against fighters from Yemen. The Houthi rebels, who attempted to target civilian ships in the Red Sea and forced a U.S. destroyer into a fierce confrontation, have not received any retaliation from the Biden administration. Although there is no evidence that the rebels deliberately targeted the warship, officials claim the rebels were pursuing Israeli foes. Some government officials are angry and demand a more forceful response.
🇵🇸 Fearing rape, Hamas takes female hostages. According to U.S. sources, Hamas is holding female hostages in Gaza because it wishes to conceal rape-related evidence. Notably, accounts from the Oct. 7 attack have detailed heinous sexual assault against Israeli women. A member of Hamas allegedly admitted to interrogators that the militants abducted women "to rape them," "dirty them," and "have their way with them."
💳 In Arizona, the US offers $5,000 in gift cards to migrants. Arizona Sheriff Mark Lamb was informed by sources that people who cross the border illegally are getting free cell phones, airline tickets, and $5,000 gift cards—all paid for by the taxpayer. According to Lamb, the government transfers funds through charities and nonprofits rather than directly covering the costs of refugees.

Israel asserts that it has eliminated half of Hamas's battalion commanders; yet, the organization's top officials remain alive.
In jest, the former president claimed he wouldn't "be a dictator" until after "day one," at which point he would "close the border" and "drill, drill, drill" for oil.
A letter signed by unidentified White House interns asked Biden to press for a ceasefire in Gaza.

2024 ELECTION
Important points from the Republican debate
Here is what’s going on: In what turned out to be the most heated primary discussion of the 2024 election season, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Chris Christie squared off for the Republican presidential candidacy.
Ron DeSantis: The governor of Florida gave a powerful speech and highlighted the differences between himself and Haley, who quickly surpassed him in a few polls in South Carolina and New Hampshire. He slapped Haley around for her recent remarks about letting parents transition their kids.
Nikki Haley: The former UN ambassador, who is a rising star and has just attracted major contributors, was the most assailed candidate on stage. She is the running mate that some Republicans want Trump to choose. When Ramaswamy asked her to name three Ukrainian provinces after she had explained the significance of the war, she was taken aback.
Vivek Ramaswamy: The star of the discussion on Wednesday night slung shade at both Christie and Haley on a range of issues, including foreign policy and political corruption. Haley was also criticized by Ramaswamy for her affiliation with the industrial defense complex and her threat to send American children to fight to afford a larger home. He carried a placard labeling Haley as dishonest.
Chris Christie: The former governor of New Jersey, who now has the lowest polling position, made headlines when he called Ramaswamy “the most annoying blowhard in America.” Along with declaring former President Donald Trump unfit for office, he later told Ramaswamy that he had no authority to disparage Haley.
Seen in the cake: There's little chance that the results of the GOP primary will be altered by the fourth debate. The Iowa Caucuses are in 39 days, and Trump is up to 45 points ahead of the competition.
The actual discussion: The intense dynamic in action on Wednesday night provided a window into the continuous fight for the GOP's survival. For the majority of the evening, DeSantis and Ramaswamy—two representatives of the so-called New Right—were on the attack. Haley and Christie represented an earlier, pre-Trump Republican consensus, and thus functioned as symbolic punching bags.
GEOPOLITICS
What will happen after the war ends
Here is what’s going on: What Gaza's "day after" will look like if Hamas is overthrown is still a mystery eight weeks into the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Position of Bibi: Following the battle, Israel will maintain security control over Gaza "indefinitely," according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the IDF will "demilitarize" the area.
The catch: The IDF would bear a heavy weight if it were to stay in Gaza "indefinitely." Furthermore, Netanyahu might be removed from office in the not-too-distant future, and the next prime minister might alter his plans.
Position of the United States: The United States has openly rejected an Israeli reoccupation of Gaza. Rather, President Joe Biden hopes to take this as a chance to further the "two-state solution," which entails the establishment of a Palestinian state in addition to Israel.
The issue: According to polls, the majority of Israelis and Palestinians are not in favor of a two-state solution. More significantly, October 7 demonstrated to many Israelis what occurs when Israel abruptly leaves territory: Not more peace, but more conflict.
Other suggestions: According to local experts, Gaza might be taken over by an international coalition of Arab nations, potentially in cooperation with the UN. Others have also stated that the Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas and currently in charge of the Palestinian lands in the West Bank, ought to be established despite its shortcomings.
Uncertainty: If Israel destroys Hamas and takes it out of power, there are no "good" outcomes. Which is the least awful alternative is frequently more important when it comes to Middle East policy than which is the best.
