Iran's interference in Biden's foreign policy
Here is what's going on: According to recently leaked documents, Iranian officials established a covert campaign in 2014 called the Iran Experts Initiative, creating a global network of scholars and academics and collaborating with them on their work, to promote Iran's viewpoints on nuclear weapons negotiations.
Corporate media: In order to influence policymakers, the initiative's network was able to get articles for publication in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Foreign Policy, among other important publications.
The real kicker: Among these "experts" are two analysts from think tanks, a Pentagon policy consultant, and Robert Malley, who served as President Joe Biden's ambassador to Iran. Malley has been placed on administrative leave due to unspecified security issues. He is also being looked into by the FBI for allegedly handling secret information improperly.
Why it’s important: As a result, Iran has significant influence over U.S. foreign policy. Ariane Tabatabai, a top officer at the Pentagon, has a security clearance that allows her access to military secrets. Ali Vaez and Dina Esfandiary, the other two analysts, have advised American officials on policy. Malley allegedly made an effort to secure Vaez a position in the Biden administration.
Recap: In 2015, Malley served as the lead negotiator for a contentious agreement that eased American sanctions against Iran. While Esfandiary and other Iranian-backed academics produced papers and participated in interviews to sway public opinion, Tabatabai and Vaez helped him with the negotiations. The agreement was terminated by the late President Trump, but Malley and Biden have attempted to resurrect it.

Over 200 Dems Join Republicans to Thwart Biden's Agenda
Here is what’s going on: The House voted in favor of the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act, with a 424-1 majority, seeking to overturn the Biden administration's decision to withhold federal funding for school shooting sports courses.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Mark Green, aims to support hunting and archery programs in schools, with bipartisan support from both Republicans and Democrats.
The Department of Education had previously interpreted the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act as prohibiting taxpayer funds for such programs, arguing that they involve "technically dangerous weapons." Advocates argue that this interpretation is misconstrued and detrimental to valuable programs.
The House vote is seen as an effort to protect and promote these programs in schools, impacting an estimated 50,000 students. Senators from both parties have also expressed concerns about the administration's interpretation of the law, with companion legislation introduced in the Senate to address the issue.

Menendez and Wife Plead Not Guilty to Corruption
Here is what's going on: Senator Bob Menendez and his wife, Nadine Menendez, have pleaded not guilty to federal corruption and bribery charges, marking the second corruption case against the senator in a decade.
The charges include allegations of accepting bribes from New Jersey businessmen seeking political favors. Several co-defendants have also entered not-guilty pleas and had bond amounts set. The case has drawn significant attention, with calls for Menendez's resignation from fellow Democrats, including Senator Cory Booker.
Prosecutors allege that Menendez used his political influence to benefit Egypt, shared sensitive government information with Egyptian officials, and advocated for the release of aid funds to Egypt despite human rights concerns. The indictment also accuses Menendez of pressuring a U.S. official to support a deal benefiting one of his co-conspirators.
Conclusion: The legal proceedings will continue, and the outcome of this case will have significant implications for Senator Menendez's political career and reputation.
