🎓 The head of DEI at Harvard copied her work. In a complaint, Harvard's chief diversity officer Sherri Ann Charleston is charged with at least 40 instances of plagiarism in both her dissertation and a peer-reviewed journal paper. Upon closer examination, it became evident that her writing was remarkably similar to those of others, with entire paragraphs being plagiarized. She is also charged with stealing from her husband's work in the complaint.

🌴 Ilhan Omar exalts Somali nationalism. Representative Ilhan Omar spoke about Somalia's interests in the US Congress while addressing a group of Somali-American voters. “No one will take Somalia’s sea,” the representative declared, adding that “the U.S. government will do what [Somalis] ask it to do.” The most startling thing she said was that "we"—that is, the United States, Somalia, or both—might "one day seek" the land that Somalia formerly held.

👀 Cori Bush is working with a spiritual guru who despises Jews. According to FEC documents, Representative Cori Bush has been paying $137,000 to a spiritual teacher who says he can mentally control the weather, is "109 trillion years old," and has participated in various conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic groups since 2020. His formal title is "security guard," but an inquiry revealed that he only ever gave Bush security once.

🍳 Biden proceeds with a more lax stove regulation. The Biden administration's intentions to drastically reduce gas stove efficiency were exposed last year, which infuriated people. Biden has now released a stove efficiency rule that is noticeably weaker. As opposed to 50% of gas stoves from the first rule last year, almost all existing gas stoves and 77% of electric stoves are permitted under the revised rule.

Here is what's going on: Deepfake scandals are surfacing at all governmental levels.

• On Tuesday, voters got a phony phone from President Biden advising them not to cast ballots in the New Hampshire primary. Fears of impending "electoral chaos" if lawmakers ignore the problem were aroused by the incident.

• Roger Stone claims that a deepfake audio tape is the basis for a federal probe into his incitement of violence.

• Locally, a racial audio clip that the Baltimore high school principal believes to be a deepfake has engulfed him in scandal. No local media outlet has been able to refute him.

Why it’s important: Regulation, according to deepfake content detractors, is necessary to foster an "informed electorate" and aid in preventing "deceptive political discourse." However, in light of previous inquiries into disinformation efforts and the Department of Justice's already ideologically driven work, the possibility of suppression looms.

• What do they consist of? Deepfakes are artificial intelligence-generated or artificially modified images, sounds, or movies that appear authentic.

Uncharted legal territory: Although certain state legislatures, like those in Texas and California, have passed legislation regulating the use of deepfakes, there are currently no federal regulations in place surrounding this practice. States have recommended a range of policies, from outright prohibiting deepfake content during election seasons to requiring disclaimers for such content.

• Recall that: the Hunter Biden laptop story was suppressed because it was believed to include “disinformation” that could influence an election, a claim that has since been disproven. Its repression exposes the government's risky practice of suppressing verifiable news.

• Illegal memes: Legal action against political expression for "misinformation" has started even before the deepfake age. Doug Mackey, a right-wing Twitter troll, was incarcerated for tweeting memes encouraging Hillary Clinton text-voting in the 2016 presidential election.

While Biden could end the migrant crisis, instead He blames Republicans

Here is what's going on: Senators and President Joe Biden's team negotiated border security legislation for weeks. According to the White House, if Republicans give up, Biden is prepared to enact "the toughest and fairest set of reforms... we've ever had in our country."

• Zoom out: Although there have been fewer illegal border crossings since Mexico began to tighten down a few weeks ago, hundreds still occur every day in the United States. According to recent polls, the majority of people favor tougher laws and rank immigration as their top concern for the 2024 elections.

• No agreement: Republicans claim that Biden has made empty pledges because the bill would allow for at least 5,000 daily migrant crossings or about two million annually.

• History: Previous presidents have closed border ports of entry without being held back by the law.

How we got here: Biden altered executive policy to facilitate unauthorized entry and stay in the United States.

• Simple asylum: By tearing down long-standing obstacles, his administration made it significantly easier for asylum claimants to enter the United States. The "stay in Mexico" policy of the Trump administration was likewise terminated after legal challenges were brought before the Supreme Court.

• Illegal parole programs: By granting eligibility to entire nations and disobeying court rulings that declare it unlawful, the government has extended "parole" for migrants, which federal law already permits on a case-by-case basis.

• Very few removals: On his first day in office, Biden put a stop to deportations, which he has maintained at a rate of roughly 1%.

Why it’s important: Biden has the power to radically cut back on illegal immigration by ending these initiatives personally. However, to transfer political blame for the problem ahead of the midterms, the Biden administration is continuing its permissive border operations while characterizing Republicans as obstructionists for opposing legislation.
