2024 ELECTION
The Biden administration braces for a potential Trump's win
Here’s what's going on: The White House of President Joe Biden is promoting a new rule to make it more difficult for President Trump to reinstate Schedule F, an executive order that made it simpler to fire government employees.
However, Trump's advisers, though, are not overly concerned about the effort to "Trump-proof" federal positions. They claim that because they won't need to go through Congress, it will be simple to go back and reinstate Schedule F. Republicans in the Senate prevented Democrats from passing Biden's countermeasure in the past.
Why it’s important: The White House's action indicates that the Biden administration is at least taking the prospect of Trump's reelection into consideration. Even while Biden is urging anxious Democrats to "chill" in the face of Trump's soaring poll numbers, it is obvious that the administration is covering its bets.
Zoom in: Even if their jobs change, Biden's new rule would maintain the job safeguards already in place for federal employees, including the right to challenge terminations or reassignments. Additionally, it limits which jobs may lose the normal job safeguards.
The big picture: All of the main Republican contenders for president want significant budget cutbacks for what they refer to as the "deep state," or government bureaucrats who lean Democratic and are difficult to remove. There are currently around 2.2 million federal workers, and that number is rising.
It's a serious issue: Before the 2020 election, Trump and his allies encountered opposition from within federal agencies, who sought to restrict them.

👼 Democrats worry that Trump may depict himself as pro-choice to win over more people. Democrats and backers of President Biden are concerned that Donald Trump is purposefully portraying himself as more impartial on the subject to appeal to moderate voters in light of his critique of DeSantis' six-week abortion ban as "terrible." Trump has been dubbed the "most pro-life" president due to his appointments to the Supreme Court Justices, which resulted in the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Sen. Menendez and his wife Indicted on Federal Bribery Charges
Here is what's going on: Senator Bob Menendez and his wife have been indicted on federal bribery charges, as announced by prosecutors. They allege that Menendez accepted bribes in the form of cash, gold bars, and a luxury car in exchange for corrupt acts, including using Menendez's influence to benefit Egypt's authoritarian government.
The reasons: The indictment claims that Menendez provided sensitive U.S. government information to Egyptian officials and took covert actions to assist the country. These actions included ghostwriting a letter for Egypt and pressuring other senators to release $300 million in aid to Egypt. A search of their home uncovered $100,000 in gold bars and $480,000 in hidden cash. Menendez will have to step down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Involvements: The charges also involve three businessmen from New Jersey – Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes – who face similar charges as the Menendezs. Menendez, who is up for reelection in 2024, has denied the charges. This marks the second time the Justice Department has filed corruption charges against him, with the first instance occurring in 2015.

Trump Surges in Polls Among Black and Hispanic Voters
Here is what's going on: Recent polls suggest that former President Donald Trump is performing exceptionally well among Black and Hispanic voters in potential matchups against President Biden for the 2024 election. Trump is averaging 20 percent support from Black voters and 42 percent from Hispanic voters in five high-quality polls.
These numbers, especially the one for Black voters, could potentially set modern-day records for a Republican presidential candidate. No Republican in the past 50 years has come close to receiving 20 percent of the Black vote. While individual polls have small sample sizes, they consistently show strong non-White voter support for Trump. This trend isn't strictly about Trump himself, as other Republican candidates in the 2024 race are also near 20 percent among these groups. However, there is skepticism about whether these polls accurately reflect future voting behavior, as polls have overestimated Republican support among Black voters in the past.
In the 2022 election, polls predicted higher Republican support among non-White voters than the actual results showed, with lower turnout being a significant factor. The data also indicates that Biden's lead among non-White voters may be influenced by low turnout, rather than a massive shift toward Trump. The dissatisfaction of younger and lower-turnout voters could contribute to this trend.
Summary: early 2024 polls suggest Trump is gaining substantial support among Black and Hispanic voters, which could be a significant factor in the upcoming election. However, the accuracy of these polls and their impact on voter turnout remain uncertain.
