💣 Talks are nearing an Israel-Hamas one-month cease-fire. Behind closed doors, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt have been negotiating a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. The still-secret deal called for the gradual release of the captives kidnapped by Hamas and would conclude with the troops' release. The only unresolved issue is Hamas's insistence that the accord includes a longer-term or permanent ceasefire.

Moscow asserts that Ukraine shot down the aircraft, which was transporting Ukrainian prisoners of war on their way to exchange places. Although at first, several independent Ukrainian outlets claimed that Kyiv had shot it down, they have now recanted their statements. The Zelenskyy government has not said anything as of now.

Fact-checkers scramble to suppress border crisis stories
The insider: Instagram reduced the visibility of our post last week about illegal immigrants being housed in a high school in New York City by labeling it as "false information." However, this week, the rating was deleted because the article is true.
Why it happened: An Associated Press "fact check" of related posts served as the basis for the rating.
Why it is important: As he campaigns for reelection, President Joe Biden is suffering in the polls due to illegal immigration. Legacy media outlets are "fact-checking" immigration allegations more and more; they have recently been in contact with his campaign.
The narrative: During a storm, the school canceled one day of lessons to provide shelter to some 2,000 migrants. A growing tendency in New York City schools is to invite immigrants, which has infuriated the local population.
Censoring facts: The A.P. claims that because the closure was "temporary," social media posts claiming that the school "shut down" are untrue. The publication provided Meta with the indication to censor factual content just based on this word choice.
Playing word games: The A.P. has previously reported that when schools momentarily went remote in response to COVID-19, they were "shut down" or "closed." The A.P.'s reasoning states that this coverage disseminates "misinformation."
We presented the receipts: The fact check contained no references to "shut down" or any other contradictory statements in our post. After Upward News contacted them, the A.P. had Instagram delete the "false" rating; however, they would not elaborate on why the other posts had been classified as fraudulent.
Within the censoring sector: The article's author was formerly employed at the government-funded "misinformation" tracker Newsguard. With fact checks, The A.P. is just one of several media sites that assist tech platforms in limiting the reach of specific accounts.
🏛 WASHINGTON D.C
The Texas-Biden Border Showdown
Here is What's going on: in defiance of a Supreme Court ruling allowing border officials to remove it, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has increased the amount of razor wire along the U.S.-Mexico border to halt illegal immigration. Abbott's action represents a further step up in his campaign against the "lawless border policies" of President Joe Biden.
Situation: Texas is suing to maintain the razor wire in place, preventing the Border Patrol from accessing a 2.5-mile section of the border near Eagle Pass. Texas is required by the Biden administration to lift the blockage by tomorrow.
Additionally, Abbott's new law permitting Texas to arrest and deport illegal immigrants beginning in March is being challenged by the federal government.
Choosing a side: House Democrats want Abbott stopped by Biden taking over the Texas National Guard. Meanwhile, a plan to prevent the Feds from cutting the razor wire is being pushed by Republicans. Moreover, representatives from Florida, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Georgia praised Abbott's opposition.
Nevertheless, the bulk of unauthorized border crossings cannot be prevented by any of Abbott's tactics. The ports of entry operated by the federal government will handle the processing and eventual release of migrants into the nation.
Why it is important: If a president is unable or unwilling to safeguard the borders, conservatives seek to establish the broad concept that states are entitled to do so.
A constitutional battle: Abbott claims that his actions are justified by a constitutional provision that permits states to "engage in war" or protect themselves against "invasion." Abbott officially declared an "invasion" in 2022, but up until this point, his strategy for handling the situation hasn't changed all that much.
