Trump would accept the temporary speakership. Trump indicated that until Republicans decide on a long-term replacement, we will take the position of speaker of the House of Representatives. E-Verify: A Promising Next Step in Border Security
Here is what’s going on: Republicans are promoting E-Verify as a remedy to illegal immigration, which is what's going on. Most firms in the state are required to utilize E-Verify for new recruits as part of a recent immigration bill signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
What’s the E-Verify? The Department of Homeland Security runs a website that enables companies to look up candidates' immigration statuses. A rule prevents large corporations from employing illegal immigrants, which ultimately discourages these people from seeking employment in the United States.
Why it’s important: Record-high illegal immigration is lowering wages, particularly for low-wage workers. Low-wage workers are spared from having to compete with inexpensive labor thanks to E-Verify.
But some people see things differently. Republicans and Democrats have fought against a mandate for E-Verify despite its advantages for years.
On the right: Former President Donald Trump withdrew from the E-Verify program after failing to get a mandate through Congress, claiming that it would make hiring for businesses and farms challenging. Other libertarians and conservatives claim that the scheme would give the federal government excessive control over who can work.
E-Verify is opposed by Democrats because they believe it to be discriminatory. Additionally, they favor letting illegal immigrants work, as evidenced by President Joe Biden's recent decision to do so in response to lobbying from Wall Street and Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul.
E-Verify alone won't stop illegal immigration, though. Many unauthorized immigrants do under-the-table jobs. E-Verify must also be consistently enforced in order to be most effective.
