Supreme Court Trump 2024 election disqualification case
Here is what's going on: The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a bid to challenge Donald Trump's eligibility for the 2024 White House race due to his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. A little-known Republican candidate, John Anthony Castro, brought the case, but the Supreme Court declined without comment.
Castro plans to explore other legal options, including cases in appellate courts and upcoming trials in New Hampshire and Arizona.
Meanwhile, activists have sought to prevent Trump from running in 2024 by invoking the 14th Amendment, which bars individuals engaged in insurrection or rebellion from holding public office.

Donald Trump slams New York AG for 'witch hunt'
Here is what's going on: Former President Donald Trump appeared in a Manhattan court for the start of a civil trial after a judge ruled that he committed fraud in building his business empire. New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, is pursuing the case, accusing Trump of lying about his net worth to benefit himself.
Trump criticized James and the judge, Arthur Engoron, calling it a "witch hunt" and alleging political motivations. Engoron had ruled that Trump and his businesses inflated their net worth to gain financial advantages. James seeks $250 million in penalties and a ban on Trump's business activities in New York, while Engoron's ruling could lead to Trump losing some iconic New York properties and having some companies under court control. Trump is not expected to testify for several weeks in the trial.

Biden's recent plan means Fewest Ever Offshore Oil Leases
Here is what's going on: The Biden administration has unveiled its offshore oil and gas leasing program for the next five years, which includes only three Gulf of Mexico lease sales through 2029, marking the fewest offshore oil drilling leases in U.S. history. This plan, which blocks leasing on the Alaskan coast, Atlantic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean, aims to expand offshore wind development.
It is mandated by a 2022 climate law, which requires the government to offer a minimum of 60 million acres of offshore oil and gas leases before offering offshore wind leases.
Critics, including industry groups and Senator Joe Manchin, argue that the plan limits energy production and could have adverse economic consequences, including energy scarcity and higher costs for consumers. The plan is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
On media brief:
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the longest-serving female senator in American history and a 90-year-old Democrat from California, passed away on Friday. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILY's List, was chosen by Governor Gavin Newsom (D) to fill the position.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) could be the subject of an ethics investigation after being seen on tape setting off a fire alarm as Democrats tried to postpone a vote to prevent a government shutdown. According to Bowman, he was trying to open a door.
According to Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who made the announcement, his desire to potentially run against Vice President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election is at odds with the views of the majority of his caucus.
After a three-year break, federal student loan repayments resumed again on Sunday.
The first day of a civil fraud trial will begin today with former president Trump appearing in a Manhattan courtroom. He is accused of fabricating a billion-dollar net worth to get better conditions on bank loans and insurance policies.
